With make up brushes, I used to buy at Priceline or Ice Accessories but i got myself the MAC 187 and 190 and i love it, i wouldn't go for the cheapo ones anymore. With lipsticks, I haven't tried them but I've heard alot of great reviews about the MAC ones. Face cream, depends what's your skin type?

This is a little difficult to answer because it's a broad question, but from my observations and experience most of the people I know will spend a good amount of money on cosmetics. Most of my friends usually buy from MAC or Sephora because their make-up is good quality.
People nowadays mostly buy recognizable name brands (MAC, Sephora, L'Oreal, Revlon, etc.) I tend to get different things from Sephora and Maybelline. And as far as I know, people can get their cosmetics from stores such as Wal-Mart or going to actual make-up stores such as Sephora which carries a number of brands.
I'm thinking you mean eyeshadow when you say shades, so shades are usually determined by the seasons. For example, in the summer shades such as reds, oranges, yellows, and anything bright go, where in the winter it's more smokey, green, blue, and cool colors. The seasons don't necessarily determine what shades are popular, it's really more of what a person is looking for and what shades look good with what clothes you're wearing. i want to start a whole new makeup collection and wanted to know what MAC cosmetics are an absolute neccessity to purchase to have a solid good quality collection .

As far as MAC goes, these are my essentials:
Eyeshadow-Goldmine, Crystal Avalanche, Sushi Flower, Stars 'n Rockets, Aquadisiac...those are mine, but a lot of people love Shroom and Carbon and so forth. It depends on what colours you like.
Mascara-I haven't used any of their mascaras, my favourite is actually Avon's Uplifting mascara.
Eyeliner-Again something else I have not used, but the Technakohls have rave reviews.
Cheeks-All my favourite cheek products were limited edition-the Lune blushcreme and the Alpha Girl beauty powder. If any of the stores have the Beauty Powder blushes still, it would be worth your time to check those out. Also I love the Belightful iridescent pressed powder.
Lips-Get a couple different shades of the lipstick and then a lipglass or two. All my favourites are limited edition ones though. Also if you like glittery things, get a Dazzleglass while you can (Ms. Fizz and Glamour OD are amazing).
During the holiday season, and at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, they do have brush sets, and it is good to buy one of those as they are fairly reasonably priced.
If you live near a CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet, also known as Cosmetics Company Store), you can pick up items from old limited-edition collections for 30% off the retail...and if you are lucky, you can find one of my favourite products: Helium pigment. It's a light pink with red pearl and is great all over the face. First of all you can let your web browser do the walking for you and check out all of the products and companies there are. If those prices seem a little ';pricey';, go to a store like Walmart and check out their selections.... compare the ';real'; products against the generic brands (store brands) by reading the labels and list of the ingredients. If the ingredients are basically the same, try the generic. If after trying this, you are not happy with the generic brand, then try the ';real'; mineral cosmetic. First of all you can let your web browser do the walking for you and check out all of the products and companies there are. If those prices seem a little ';pricey';, go to a store like Walmart and check out their selections.... compare the ';real'; products against the generic brands (store brands) by reading the labels and list of the ingredients. If the ingredients are basically the same, try the generic. If after trying this, you are not happy with the generic brand, then try the ';real'; mineral cosmetic. How can I save money to buy MAC cosmetics?

Since you are 13 you obviously don't have a job. However, in order to get some money to buy things, try the following ways to get money:
-Do you have a little cousin or neighbor that you could babysit? Try that and charge about $10 an hour. You'll probably watch the child for about 2 or 3 hours so that is already $20-$30.
-Summer is basically here! Maybe you could set up a lemonade stand, although you should charge about 25 cents at the most, every bit counts. Another great thing to do to be rolling in cash is a car wash with the neighborhood. Besides the lemonade stand and carwash in the neighborhood, you could go walking around your neighborhood selling baked goods. These are all fun and easy ways to get some money.
-You could also do washing windows for the neighbors, or even mowing the lawn.
-Finally, a last idea to get some money is that although your are 13 you could see if you could go to the makeup counter at the mall and do work like sweeping, restocking cosmetics for the next person who gets there makeup done, cleaning or something like that so you could see if they would pay you. Even if they disagree to pay, still you could volunteer, and you can be able to watch professional application. Either way you could see the pro's applying the makeup while you work.
Try and save it up alot at a time, like maybe every $40 you could spend in MAC in one trip. Or you could save up like a hundred dollars and use it there. Even though Ebay looks like it has a lot of great MAC products, 95% of the time they are fake. For example, I have a friend who bought a hundred piece brush set from MAC on ebay, and paid alot but less than at a MAC store, and ended up it was counterfeit.
Remember how I mentioned trying to work behind the makeup counter to get money, or volunteer and watch, well if you're not volunteering or working you could try just going anyway and getting your makeup done by them, and getting tips, or just watch others and listen to them get tips.

you should first go ask your local mac if they have a mailing list, and if they do sign up because they will send you information on when they have promotional deals...sometimes these deals require you to spend a lot but you get free stuff with like every 50 dollar purchase
then out of every paycheck you get you should open a savings and put aside 30 dollars of every paycheck and only use that money for mac, but let it pile up for a while, so that way you can go in with about 120 dollars and spend it all there in one day

You should go to Sephora because they have something called ';Beauty Insider'; and for every dollar you spend, you get a Beauty Insider Point. When you get 100 points you get to choose a sample of your liking that they have. =)

Is it safe to buy cosmetics on e-bay?
There are so many great deals on e-bay, including cosmetics. I've seen some pretty good prices on almost every moisturizer imaginable, but I'm wondering if it's safe to order this way. I imagine this massive scam going on in which people refill the containers of these cosmetics with similar looking creams that they've created in their kitchen. I suppose there just isn't the same security that you'd have if you went to buy the same cream from your local pharmacy or department store. Why shouldn't you buy cosmetics in a jar?

I'm assuming you mean things like cream products in a screw-top jar. They're fine to buy, yo just have to be careful about sanitation and depending on what it is, drying out. Always use a clean brush when using prodcts out of a jar, unlike a pump bottle, you touch more product than you use when you reach in to get it out, this leave bacteria in the jar which can grow and be bad for you- it can also change the product. Some products ';oxidize'; when they come in contact with oil, changing their color and texture.
Also, if you use a product in a jar opening it everyday exposes the product to air, which can dry it out. If it's a prodct you use often, I reccomend every couple weeks taking a tiny bit and putting it in a small sample jar and using that fo reveryday- that way if it dries out you only waste a little, not the whole thing, and the big jar doesn't dry out as fast because you only open it every couple weeks, not everyday.Why shouldn't you buy cosmetics in a jar?

If you have a bank account you can sign up for 'pay-pal' some companies recognize this form of payment, though it takes about 5-7 extra days to get to you because of the processing time. You could try to talk your parents into getting you something like a joint credit card. It's your name on the card, but if something happens to your payments your parents will have to pay off the card.
Though personally i would suggest just borrowing your parents' card and paying them back with your cash.

I tried to replace the prescriptives foundation with some cheaper mineral makeup and it looked awful. The only expensive makeup I buy is the foundation and concealer. The foundation is about 45 dollars and the concealer is 25 dollars. I like the way it looks because it does not make wrinkles show and it stay fresh.The color is perfect .

I think most of the times, the girls behind the counter, take those little samples home anyway ! Each perfume costs like 70 dollars the small bottle so why can't they just hand out the samples ? Good for you for asking them !

Actually, any cosmetics that work with your skin tone and applied correctly won't make you look cheap. I have the exact same results with my Dior items that I had with the Cover Girl Queen Collection (I'm olive-skinned, Native American so it's hard to find a foundation match in European brands.) Actually, any cosmetics that work with your skin tone and applied correctly won't make you look cheap. I have the exact same results with my Dior items that I had with the Cover Girl Queen Collection (I'm olive-skinned, Native American so it's hard to find a foundation match in European brands.) I use many high-end cosmetics such as Natura Bisse, creme de la mer, and others, and I wanted to know if it was okay to buy them over ebay since the prices on there are just...wow. I can't believe those people are getting away with charging the miniscule amounts they are.
Needless to say, it's fun saving a few hundred.

I will buy products on-line that I already use and like or that are brands that I trust. With cosmetics, a woman needs to know what shades work for her, which is the advantage of being able to buy at a store where she can test. But once she's figured out a brand and shade that work, buying that product again is almost as easy as a man buying a shirt. (I watch my husband with envy when he picks up a shirt in a package and just by the neck size and sleeve length he knows it will fit.) Then the repurchase of that product can be driven by price and convenience. Some women like to experiment, so for them, a store makes more sense unless they are willing to gamble.
Bottom line for all web purchases for me: I love the convenience but I want a final price (after shipping) that is at least competitive with what I'd pay in a store, if not better. And when I buy in a store, I tend to wait for sales, so my ';buy'; price is set on the low side.
The other thing about web shopping is I don't want to put something in a shopping basket then be told it's not in stock. If that's the case, either don't show it to me or put that disclaimer on the product page.
In terms of cosmetic products, I want to be able to search by a product or brand line OR by a type of product (mascara, whatever). I want options to narrow my search, if a whole bunch of stuff comes up. I would love to be able to set my coloring and have the results presifted to be the colors that make sense for me.
